An Open Conversation about AI in Qualitative Research

"Welcome to a special workshop in which we aim to reflect and share ideas, doubts, fears, and experiences on the use of AI in the craft of qualitative research. Unlike other workshops, this will be an open conversation among all participants, structured around three questions:
(1) In general, how do I feel about the use of AI in qualitative research?
(2) What are the specific tasks or processes in which I believe AI can support the craft of qualitative research? How? OR What are the specific tasks or processes in which I believe AI can damage the craft of qualitative research? How? (*choose one, short accounts of practical experience are welcome)
(3) How can we manage the use of AI in qualitative research? What are some of the guidelines we can adopt as a community regarding the use of AI?
Researchers with all levels and types of experience in qualitative research and the use of AI are welcome. With this workshop we aim to create space for an open and critical conversation that is necessary beyond pressures to embrace or reject the use of AI in qualitative research.
To attend this session, please register and prepare answers to at least one question. We will have 20 to 25 minutes to discuss each question. We will limit answers to 1 minute and “give the mic” to new voices so we can hear from as many participants as possible. After hearing answers to each question, an Atelier organizer will provide a short summary. At the end, we will reflect together on what was shared and what we take away from this conversation.
